Contemporary art and sculpture photography by Daniel Schäfer Studio documenting Inside Out (concrete) (2019), a work by internationally acclaimed artist Mona Hatoum, presented at Hauser & Wirth Menorca in spring 2026.
Positioned at the arrival dock on Illa del Rei, the sculpture forms part of the outdoor sculpture trail selected by Cristina Iglesias, bringing together contemporary artworks in dialogue with the island’s architecture, history and Mediterranean landscape.
Inside Out (concrete) takes the form of a globe covered in an intricate, labyrinthine pattern reminiscent of the human body's internal structures, from intestinal pathways to the folds of the brain. Cast entirely in concrete, the sculpture creates a tension between the apparent softness of its organic forms and the density and permanence of its material.
Situated at the threshold between sea and land, the work resonates with themes of displacement, vulnerability and transition, recurring concerns in Hatoum’s artistic practice.
Commissioned by Hauser & Wirth, Daniel Schäfer Studio’s photographic documentation captures the sculptural presence of Inside Out (concrete) and its relationship with the surrounding architectural and coastal environment.
