German artist Heinz Mack, co-founder of the ZERO movement, has lived and worked between Germany and Ibiza for decades. His home, studio and sculptural garden on the island form a deeply personal environment where art, architecture, landscape and Mediterranean light coexist.

Commissioned by HTSI / Financial Times, Daniel Schäfer Studio photographed Mack’s Ibiza home, studio and garden for an editorial story exploring the relationship between his artistic practice and the spaces he inhabits. Moving between interiors, artworks, architecture and landscape, the series follows light, colour and material as connecting elements throughout the property.

The house and studio reveal a more intimate dimension of Mack’s practice, where artworks, objects and everyday spaces exist in close dialogue. Outside, the sculptural garden extends this relationship into the landscape, with works positioned in direct conversation with vegetation, architecture and the changing Mediterranean light.

For Daniel Schäfer Studio, the story became an exploration of how an artist’s environment can reflect the ideas that run through his work: light, movement, perception, colour and space.
