Fundación NMAC is a contemporary art institution located within the Dehesa de Montenmedio, near Vejer de la Frontera in southern Spain. Conceived as a place where art and nature establish a continuous dialogue, the foundation brings together site-specific artworks, architectural interventions and installations embedded within a Mediterranean forest landscape.

Commissioned for the foundation’s publication and visual documentation, Daniel Schäfer Studio developed an extensive photographic body of work exploring the relationship between contemporary art, landscape and atmosphere. Moving beyond the documentation of individual artworks, the project constructs a visual narrative of NMAC through shifting light conditions, vegetation, spatial sequences and the relationship between artistic interventions and their natural surroundings.

Extending across the Mediterranean pine forest, exhibition spaces and surrounding landscapes, the photographic series also incorporates visual fragments of Vejer de la Frontera and its territory. Together, these images form a visual archive that explores how contemporary art inhabits the landscape and how the identity of a place becomes inseparable from the works it contains.

The photographic documentation encompasses works by internationally recognised artists, including Marina Abramović, James Turrell, Olafur Eliasson, Maurizio Cattelan, Cristina Lucas, Pilar Albarracín, Huang Yong Ping, Richard Nonas, Maja Bajevic, Michael Lin, Santiago Sierra, Shen Yuan, Pascale Marthine Tayou, Adel Abdessemed, Sol LeWitt and Jacobo Castellano, among others.

Developed as both an editorial photographic project and a long-term visual record, the work contributes to the foundation’s evolving archive, documenting a cultural landscape in which contemporary art, nature and the experience of place remain in constant dialogue.
