The house and studio of sculptor Xavier Corberó (1935–2017) in Esplugues de Llobregat, near Barcelona, stands as one of the most singular intersections of art, architecture and domestic life in Spain.
Begun in 1968 and developed over almost five decades, the complex unfolds through interconnected buildings, monumental concrete arches, courtyards, staircases and gardens. Conceived without conventional architectural plans, it grew as an extension of Corberó’s sculptural practice, transforming architecture into an inhabitable work of art.
Within the residential spaces, Corberó's sculptures in marble, bronze and stone coexist with antique furniture, personal objects and collected design pieces. A Chinese eighteenth-century bed, Biedermeier furniture and a chaise longue by Le Corbusier contribute to an interior shaped by the artist’s personal history and creative relationships.
The photographic documentation by Daniel Schäfer Studio moves between the monumental geometry of the architecture and the intimate character of the artist’s home and atelier. Light, repetition, materiality and traces of everyday life reveal a space in which sculpture, architecture and inhabitation become inseparable.
The photographic series has been featured in Architectural Digest Spain, MANERA Magazine and Divisare.
