Chapter 2. On Architecture and Transformation through Artistic Practice.
Stefan Brüggemann’s studio and residency in Ibiza enters a new phase in which architecture itself becomes an evolving process. Moving beyond its original exposed-brick intervention conceived with architect Alberto Kalach, the project gradually transforms through reflective silver surfaces, volcanic stone, charred wood and wild vegetation, generating an atmosphere suspended between domestic intimacy, monumental presence and introspection.
Originally commissioned by Stefan Brüggemann as a photographic editorial project for HTSI and Wallpaper*, the work developed by Daniel Schäfer Studio gradually evolved into a long-term visual archive over the course of three years. Rather than documenting a fixed architectural object, the photographic work follows a place in continuous transformation, tracing not only changes in the built environment but also the gradual evolution of the surrounding landscape.
Alongside the architectural transformation, the images also follow the slow growth of the garden designed and cared for by Brüggemann himself, a contemplative landscape operating almost as a meditative space within his universe in Ibiza.
Through a cinematic and painterly approach to architecture, interiors, artworks, vegetation, details and shifting light conditions, Daniel Schäfer Studio constructs a body of work exploring the relationship between contemporary art, spatial experience and landscape. Rather than simply portraying an artist’s home and studio, the photographic series develops a visual narrative positioned between architectural documentation and atmospheric interpretation, exploring the relationship between artistic practice, inhabited space and transformation over time:
Our sincere thanks to Stefan Brüggemann for his trust and generosity in sharing a place that continuously evolves between artistic practice, architecture and landscape.
