La Finca by Ramón Esteve. Madrid.
Designed by architect Ramón Esteve, this private residence in La Finca, Madrid, was conceived around an extensive collection of contemporary art.
The architecture brings together a series of interconnected stone volumes, large glazed surfaces and Corten steel porches, creating a continuous relationship between the interiors, the landscape and the artworks.
The collection plays a defining role in the architectural composition. A concave mirrored sculpture by Anish Kapoor occupies the double-height living room, while works by Jesús Rafael Soto, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Marina Apollonio and Luis Millé introduce kinetic and optical perspectives. Further interventions by Remi Rough and Fred Wilson extend the presence of art into unexpected areas of the residence.
The interiors combine contemporary architecture with furniture by established designers. In the main living room, Rodolfo Dordoni's Freeman sofa and Song tables for Minotti are accompanied by Gerrit Rietveld's Utrecht armchairs for Cassina and the Pli side table by ClassiCon. Elsewhere, designs by Gio Ponti for Molteni&C contribute to the dialogue between furniture, architecture and art.
Set within a landscape designed by Ramón Esteve in collaboration with Gustavo Marina, the residence reflects a close relationship between built form, nature and contemporary collecting.
Photographed by Daniel Schäfer Studio and published in Architectural Digest Spain, the editorial series documents the architectural character of the residence and the relationship between space, materiality, furniture and art.
