Mandarin Oriental Ritz Madrid.

Located in the heart of Madrid, overlooking the historic Plaza de la Lealtad, Mandarin Oriental Ritz Madrid represents the transformation of one of the city's most emblematic hotels. Originally opened in 1910, the landmark building underwent an extensive restoration, bringing together its architectural heritage and a contemporary vision of hospitality.

Led by architect Rafael de la Hoz, the restoration recovered significant elements of the original building, including the historic glass dome above its central spaces. French interior design studio Gilles & Boissier developed the interiors, combining the hotel's classical character with contemporary materials, furnishings and decorative details. The gastronomic direction by chef Quique Dacosta introduces another dimension to the hotel's renewed identity.

Commissioned by Architectural Digest Spain, Daniel Schäfer Studio photographed the hotel as part of an editorial feature on Madrid's landmark hotels. The series brings together architectural and interior photography with portraits of key figures involved in the project, including interior designer Dorothée Boissier, photographed on the hotel's staircase, and chef Quique Dacosta.

Moving between restored spaces, architectural details and portraiture, the photographic work documents the people and creative disciplines behind the transformation of Mandarin Oriental Ritz Madrid, connecting architectural heritage, contemporary design and hospitality.
