Located in the historic centre of Mahón, Menorca, Casa Gràcia is a residency house founded and developed by Rashid Johnson and Sheree Hovsepian in collaboration with Hauser & Wirth Menorca. Conceived as a place for artists and writers to live and work over extended periods of time, the project has been created to provide privacy, concentration and time for reflection within a domestic Mediterranean environment.
Developed inside a historic townhouse in Mahón, Casa Gràcia offers artists and writers a self-directed residency environment without the obligation of producing a final outcome or public presentation. Conceived by Johnson and Hovsepian as an incubator for ideas, conversation and cross-disciplinary dialogue, the residence brings together domestic interiors, gardens, studios and shared spaces designed to encourage creative continuity, experimentation and exchange. In collaboration with Hauser & Wirth Menorca and local cultural institutions, the programme welcomes artists and writers from Spain and abroad while fostering engagement with the cultural context of Menorca.
Through a contemplative photographic language, Daniel Schäfer Studio documents the relationship between architecture, interiors and gardens, moving between atmosphere, materiality and presence. Developed during the very early formation of Casa Gràcia and the launch of its residency programme, the photographic series approaches the space both as architecture and as an inhabited creative environment shaped through everyday life, artistic practice and time.
